The Hamptons is famous for it’s delicious seafood, luxurious coastal homes, farms, vineyards, museums and so much more. We’ve been vacationing in the Hamptons for many years and wanted share our favorite places and spaces so you can plan your next Hamptons adventure. Whether you want dining, sight seeing, or just a laid-back retreat by the beach, check out all my suggestions below.
How to Get to The Hamptons
We always drive to the Hamptons (and you’re going to want to use your WAZE app to get through Wainscott) but there are so many other options. If you live in the city the most obvious choice is the MTA but another famous option is the Jitney. If you’d rather get there fast, there are plenty of flight options at multiple Hampton airports.
East Hampton
Our family vacations are always at the same home in the village of East Hampton. Lots of successful artists and celebrities live East Hampton, and for good reason. Main Street and down Newtown Lane are great for people watching and picking up lunch at restaurants like Babette’s, Serafina and Cittanuova. Make sure to visit my favorite vineyard Wölffer Vineyard Estate or have a predinner drink at Bay Kitchen Bar.
You know I like to cook at home so for groceries stop at Citarella or you can walk to Stop and Shop from the village. For your seafood needs hit Stuart’s Seafood Market and if don’t forget to pick up bagels at Goldberg’s! If you’re lucky enough to catch the weekend farmers market, you can try some local favorites like jams and honey.
There are lots of options to choose from from Airbnb where you can find a home that best fits your family’s vacation needs. Another option is staying at the dreamy hotel or Inn like Hampton Boat House or my favorite Mill House Inn.
Museums
The art and museum scene are fantastic, head to Book Hampton for the mix of books, gifts and games in case you get a rainy week in the Hamptons. The Longhouse is a must, both kid and adults will love looking at the sculptures and landscape. But my kids ultimate must do museum isn’t in East Hampton, it’s in Montauk.
Montauk
Montauk is a must when you’re in the Hamptons. It does take about an hour to drive from East Hampton all the way to “The End” aka Montauk Lighthouse. The Montauk lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in NY and the hands-on learning experience is fantastic for the children.
You’ll be sure to work up an appetite after touring the lighthouse so I highly suggest going to Gosman’s Restaurant. I am consistently satisfied every-time I go to Gosmans which is a big deal because we visit very randomly throughout the year. Make sure to order the lobster roll, it’s enough to feed two people. And they have a kids menu!
Beaches
Main Beach is one of the best beaches in all of the Hamptons, but truth be told I prefer going to Two Mile Beach Hollow. You’ll need a beach pass to park at any of the beaches but if you rent a home close enough you can just walk to the beaches or take a free ride trollies!
