It’s a family goal to spend at least an hour a day outside, even during the freezing/snowy months. I’ve learned over the years that as long as you have the right gear, you can enjoy the outdoors even when it’s in the negative degrees!
We’ve lived in pretty cold places due to the nature of Myles’s job, so I’ve learned the importance of proper snow gear and a few tricks that make outdoor activities enjoyable. I’ve link our favorite gear and explain why their so important below.

Water and weather proof
When shopping for harsh weather, buying budget is not recommended. So make sure to buy snow pants with a high waterproof rating, at least 12000m and that the materials can handle very cold temperatures.
Bright Colors
If your children are hitting the ski or snowboarding slopes its best buy bright color pants or jackets. This way you can easily spot them when they’re going faster than you or even on their own.
Mittens with long wrists
Dry warm hands and limbs is so important for little ones! You want to make sure the mittens go over the jackets or are easily tucked in so that absolutely no snow can get to your child’s skin.
Long johns
PJs and sweat pants often have bulky seams at the ankles and loose fabric that was difficult to tuck into boots. Thermals can sometimes get too hot but I find that these long johns are perfect.
Neck warmers
Neck warmers have come in handy this year not only for keeping my kiddos necks and chins warm but also doubling as a mask if more families join the sled hill.
