I am not from Philly and there are no mushrooms in my steak and cheese sandwich so I can’t technically call it a Philly Steak and Cheese BUT I can promise it’ll hit the spot!
I recently collaborated with Flashfood Inc. to promote their sustainable and money saving app and was able to snag two steaks for $1.95! I had no idea what I was going to make with the steaks until I saw this beautiful Italian loaf for $1 and peppers and onions in the $5 vegetable box, and it hit me; STEAK & CHEESE SANDWICHES! Below is my simple and easy recipe for a steak and cheese sandwich. You can play around with different cheese and vegetables and even substitute chicken if it’s all you have in the fridge. The possibilities are endless!
Ingredients
- 2 lb Round Steak beef (thinly sliced)
- 2 green bell peppers
- 1 large yellow onion
- .5 lb provolone cheese slices
- 2 tbsp oil
- salt and pepper to taste
Steps
- Gather all the ingredients and slice the beef very thin! Then chop the onion and peppers.
- Heat a skillet or dutch oven to hot! Add oil and then add the veggies. Cook on high heat and remove the veggies once browned in a bowl and put to the side.
- In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced beef. Season with salt and pepper while it’s cooking. Cook until the beef is fully cooked.
- Add the veggies back into the skillet. Toss and turn off the heat.
- Top with cheese and let it melt for about a minute.
- Scoop mixture into buns or Italian loaf and serve while still warm.
